Golf Course
Close
your eyes and imagine playing golf with the Pacific Ocean stretching
out before you and Mount Haupu towering above. This isn't a dream....
this is Puakea Golf Course. Designed by Robin Nelson, Hawaii’s most
prolific golf course architect, Puakea plays around deep ravines
and over streams fed by fresh mountain rains. So serene is the backdrop,
you can get lost in the joys of the game. But don't let your mind
wander too far, because Puakea can be every bit the challenge you
seek. Nelson’s masterful architecture clearly conveys the routes
one should take to achieve textbook pars. However, those more daring
will be temped with hints at ways to achieve glorious birdies and
a truly memorable round of golf.

| Poipu
Bay Golf Course
Host of the PGA Grand Slam each fall
Poipu
Bay is backed by lush emerald mountains and sculpted from a rolling
plateau eight stories above the expansive blue waters of the Pacific
Ocean. Even the most focused golfer will be challenged by breathtaking
views from each and every hole. Nestled among the gentle contours
of Poipu Bay you’ll discover the remains of Hawaiian Heiau (places
of worship) and ancient stonewalls. If this weren’t challenge
enough, the nature of Poipu Bay presents you with one distraction
after another...from native Nene geese and rare Hawaiian monk
seals to green sea turtles and humpback whales. You’ll have lots
of wild excuses to back your scorecard. Then, of course, there’s
the view!

The
Prince Course Golf Digest has named
The Prince Course the Number One golf course in the State of
Hawaii. It is also included in their prestigious list of "America's
100 Greatest Golf Courses." The Prince is one of Hawaii's most
challenging golf courses, with a USGA course rating of 75.3
and a 145 slope. But fear not. Five different tees on each hole
allow you to set your own challenge. Named after Prince Albert,
the only son of King Kamehameha IV and Queen Emma, The Prince
is Robert Trent Jones, Jr.'s masterpiece. Looking as if it had
emerged full-blown from nature, it chugs uphill, jumps ravines
and careens downhill like a roller-coaster.
Makai
Course The Makai Course, another
Robert Trent Jones, Jr. creation, has been included in Golf
Digest's "America's 100 Greatest Gold Courses" for
16 consecutive years. Really three courses in one, the Ocean
Nine overlooks the Pacific, the Lakes Nine winds its way around
serene lakes, and the Woods Nine is nestled amid native woodlands.
Golf Digest also lists the Makai Course in its Top 50 Resort
Courses and rates it as the Number 6 course in Hawaii.

Francis
H’ I’.i Brown North Course: Built
on a lava bed much older than the Kaniku flow, it is characterized
by rolling terrain punctuated by Kiawe (mesquite) forests. Trees
often come into play on this course. No. 17, a par three tucked
into a natural lava amphitheater, is the resort’s second signature
hole and a favorite “I was here” photo spot. A 230 acre protected
archaeological district lies on the northern boundary of the
course. Herds of feral goats frequent the entire course, moving
from hole to hole throughout the day.
Francis
H’ I’.i Brown South Course: The
South Course, renown
as the former home to the annual Senior Skins Game from 1990-2000,
snakes through the stark, rugged a’a lava of the prehistoric
Kaniku lava flow. Volcano goddess Pele reigns supreme on this
course. If she favors you, balls hit into the lava will miraculously
bounce back into the fairway. If not, kiss them goodbye. Besides
great golf, the challenging course offers the player a panorama
of mountain and ocean views. The South Course is home to No.
15, one of the most photographed over-the-water golf holes in
the world.

Makena
North
Course:
Designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr., the Makena North
Course opened in 1993 to rave reviews. The North Course feels
more like a nature walk than a golf course, with captivating
mountain views of Haleakala Crater and sweeping views of the
blue Pacific Ocean. Hawaiian rock walls remain where they were
found, and natural gullies and streambeds are left intact. Sharing
the spirit that embodies the Makena Resort, the South Course
provides the serenity and tranquility many golfers are looking
for. With its natural rolling fairways, undulating greens, and
breathtaking views of the ocean and mountains, the South Course
is a favorite among many Maui golfers.

| Elleair
Maui Golf Club
A
6,404-yard par-71 championship layout, Elleair features expansive
views of the Pacific Ocean, Haleakala, and the West Maui Mountains.
The course was designed by Canadian course architect Bill Newis.
With many reachable par-5s, a mix of long and short par-3s, and
par-4s that call for both a fade and a draw, Elleair brings the
trades brilliantly into play from every angle. Holes play into
and downwind, from left-to-right, and from right-to-left. You
can run your approach onto roughly half of the holes at Elleair.
For the money, Elleair is one of the best public courses in Hawaii.

Wailea
Home of the Wendy’s Championship Skins Game
Blue
Course: The first course ever built
in Wailea, the stately Blue is a gracious resort course that
has been ranked among America's best resort courses by Golf
Digest. In its lifetime, it has hosted such prestigious events
as the LPGA Women's Kemper Open and Japan's Asahi-Kyosen pro/celebrity
golf tournament. The Blue's fairways offer views of the ocean
and Mt. Haleakala, and some of Wailea's stunning residential
communities. It features several fountains and lakes, and an
abundance of colorful hibiscus, wiliwili trees, bougainvillea
and plumeria.
Emerald
Course: Rated one of the best new
courses by Golf Magazine and Golf Digest, as well as one of
North America's most women-friendly by Golf for Women, the Wailea
Emerald is akin to a lush tropical playground. But don't be
fooled by the Emerald's pleasant appearance. It is a superbly
designed course created for pure golf enjoyment, regardless
of one's handicap. Measuring 6,825 yards from the back, the
Emerald features four to six tee boxes on every hole, allowing
players to tailor the course to their playing level. Notable
features include a large double green shared by holes #10 and
#17. Fronting the green is the only lake on the course. This
is perhaps one of the Emerald's more picturesque spots.
Gold
Course: The home course of the
Wendy's Champions Skins Game, the Wailea Gold Course is the
most challenging of Wailea's trio. Designed by Robert Trent
Jones, Jr., it has been ranked among the country's best new
courses by Golf Magazine and Golf Digest, and one of the world's
best designed by the readers of Conde Nast Traveler. Throughout
the course are stark lava rock outcroppings, indigenous Hawaiian
grasses, an abundance of kiawe (a relative of mesquite), and
remnants of papohaku, prehistoric lava rock walls built by early
Hawaiians and preserved for their historic value. The Gold's
200 foot elevation change from top to bottom enhances the numerous
ocean and mountain vistas available from virtually every hole.
The course has been labeled a "thinking player's" course because
it demands strategy and careful club selection to be played
well.

| The
Dunes at Maui Lani Golf Course
The
Dunes at Maui Lani Golf Course is laid out "much like Royal Troon,"
according to course architect Robin Nelson. There isn't another
site like Maui Lani anywhere in the world. The terrain upon which
The Dunes is built prime, unspoiled linksland— unique million-year
old alluvial sand dunes—almost prehistoric in nature. Holes weave
up and down, through and around sixty foot-high sand dunes located
in the heart of Central Maui, in what is known as the Kahului
isthmus, where two ancient major volcanoes meet to form Maui,
The Valley Isle. Golfers in search of a total Maui golf experience
are encouraged to experience The Dunes at least once.
